Taking care of our planet goes further than no harm to our environment, it encompasses not harming us either. Hapilly, clean beauty is all about cosmetics and skin care products free from harmful chemicals that pose potential risks. Clean beauty is important because it promotes transparency and educates consumers about the ingredients in the products we love and use daily and their effects on our health and planet. The movement is also about introducing sustainable practices across the industry, such as reducing plastic packaging and helping and offering consumers the tools and information on how to recycle their products. It also raises awareness of the industry’s environmental impact and promotes using vegan, plant-based, cruelty-free, and sustainably sourced ingredients.

We’ve selected some clean makeup brands that have sparked our interest, and we’re getting to know more of them. Gladly, this is a rapidly expanding sector, and we can’t wait to come back with more brands!

Honest Beauty

The makeup brand part of Honest Co. aims to offer makeup at honest prices with safe, organic ingredients and gentle formulas. Their clean beauty range offers eye, face and lip products that are mindfully made while caring about the people and the planet. Honest Co., which follows the values of reduce, reuse and reimagine, also offers other product categories such as skin care, bath + body, baby clothing, diapers, wipers and cleaning supplies. They have partnered with Plant-My-Tree® to plant 1.000 trees to celebrate the focus on eco-friendly packaging options and are members of How2Recycle.

Aleph Beauty

A makeup brand consciously formulated with premium, clean, vegan ingredients, Aleph Beauty uses only ethical ingredients that are nutrient-rich and cruelty-free. They see sustainability as not just about doing no harm but doing more good. This B Corp Certified company is also a 1% For the Planet member; they follow “waste not” principles and have their circular initiative called Re Aleph. Aleph Beauty is an active member of the Sustainable Business Network, the largest and longest-standing organisation dedicated to sustainable business in New Zealand. It is certified by Zero Plastic Inside due to eliminating microplastics from their formulations.

ILIA

ILIA, a clean, skin-centric beauty brand, that sees skincare and makeup as one. They take clean beauty for their brand as a world in which natural and synthetic ingredients collide by carefully and consciously selected ingredients. Founded by Sasha, the brand is now working with Pact Collective to recycle the hard-to-recycle to ensure their products won’t end up in a landfill. The brand also commits to 1% For the Planet and is Leaping Bunny Certified

Youthforia Makeup

Formulated as skincare, this makeup brand uses plant-based synthetics to achieve high performance with luxurious textures while caring for your skin. A makeup you can sleep in, Fiona Co Chan, the brand’s founder, believes that makeup should be an extension of your skincare. Their products are USDA BioPreffered certified, meaning that at least 25% of their carbon-emitting ingredients come from renewable sources, not fossil fuels. Suitable for all skin types, their products are cruelty-free, vegan and fragrance-free.
