Sustainable Cleaning Products

Recognising sustainable products can be difficult nowadays due to many eco-buzzwords, greenwashing packaging, and marketing campaigns. Sustainable products leave little to no lasting impact on the environment throughout their lifecycle (from raw materials to their usage and disposal). Using terms such as “natural” and “organic” in marketing can be misleading, as there are no regulations behind the terms. Thus, when purchasing products, it is crucial to research the ingredients used in their production, the company’s commitment to sustainability, and any recognisable and trustworthy certifications.

Knowing how challenging it can be to find cleaning products that don’t harm the environment while shopping, we’ve selected some brands committed to sustainable practices and values.

Ecover

Made of natural, organic and biodegradable products, Ecover uses Plantplastic® packaging made from sustainably harvested sugar cane. This B Corp and Zero-Waste Certified company pioneered the world’s first phosphate-free laundry detergent. The company offers refill stations in selected stores and sources their ingredients locally.

Frosch

This EU Ecolabel-certified company features vegan, biodegradable and dermatologically tested products that are not tested on animals. Their products are packaged in 100% recycled PET, and they feature on their website a section on what sustainability means to them, along with their sustainable initiatives.

Happysoaps

The brand features zero-waste and no-plastic cleaning tabs that make various cleaning products for the whole house when mixed with water at home. The brand commits to being 100% plastic-free and offers cleaning and personal care products. Their products are hand-made in the Netherlands using natural, vegan, and palm oil-free ingredients.

Blueland

The B Corp and Climate Neutral Certified company features a refillable model where you can purchase their cleaning tabs and add water at home in their forever bottle made of Tritan and glass. Their product ranges from hand and dish soap to laundry detergent, toilet cleaners and personal care. They are committed to the planet and its people, creating products with eco-ingredients that make it easy, convenient and affordable to be eco.

Dropps

Their products are packaged and shipped with minimal packaging. The product is wrapped in a water-soluble film made of polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) that is easily broken down by microorganisms present in our water stream. The carbon-neutral brand focuses on laundry and dishwasher detergents; their products are made of natural, organic ingredients and are not tested on animals.
