We’ve made it! Can you feel the warmth?
Summer has arrived in the Northern Hemisphere, bringing sunny days and warm, bright nights. With it comes a bountiful and beautiful early summer harvest. As the weather continues to warm, look for any “pick your own” farms near you. This is an excellent way to spend time outside, enjoy nature, and become more connected to your food source and farm community. Farmers’ markets are in full swing, so be sure to bring your reusable bags and load up on all the delicious produce. Bringing forth a bountiful and beautiful early summer harvest.

So, what exactly is in season in the summer? Let’s dive into it.
Fruits
- Berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries)
- Stone Fruits (cherries, apricots, nectarines, peaches, plums)
- Rhubarb
Vegetables
- Asparagus
- Beans (Wax and Green) & Peas
- Broccoli & Cauliflower
- Cabbage
- Cucumbers
- Onions & Garlic
- Potatoes (Sweet, White, Yukon Gold, Red)
- Peppers
- Lettuce

- Tomatoes

Now, it’s important to note that depending on your local climate and growing season, some of these delicious fruits and vegetables will peak at different times throughout the summer. For example, here in Canada, good sweet corn will have us waiting until late summer to enjoy it! Be mindful at the store and try to purchase locally where and when possible.
