3 Sustainable Swim Brands you Should Check out

Why should you look for more sustainable swimwear as you dive into your first summer swim? Well, it may surprise you, but swimwear is one of the top microplastic pollutants. And why is that, you may be thinking?

Most of the swimwear available today is made from synthetic materials. This could be nylon, polyester, spandex, or a mix. All of these materials are a form of plastic, which is not biodegradable. This means that after it releases microplastics into waterways at the end of its useful life, it will sit in a landfill for a considerable time.

We wanted to highlight some brands that are taking steps forward to changing generic swim materials to ones that are easier on the planet and feel great on your skin. We are moving in the right direction with brands utilising biobased and deadstock fabrics.

Reformation

Reformation has long been known as a sustainable brand. Since its inception as a vintage store, the rescale has a system to track its goods’ carbon and water footprint. They currently utilise biobased polyamides made from 100% renewable plants.

Vitamin A Swimwear

Vitamin A Swimwear utilises ecolux, a fabric brand that uses recycled nylon, lycra, and polyester. Additionally, it ensures that all of its materials are Oeko-tex-certified.

Ookioh

Ookioh Swim, this brand is dedicated to creating swimwear with 100% regenerated materials. This means they utilise materials like fishing nets, ocean plastics, or pre-consumer waste and turn them into luxury textiles.

As the weather continues to warm up, maybe you are looking for a new suit. Check out these brands or others; invest in a sustainable suit to dip in! Happy swimming!
