Underconsumption Core: Beauty Edition

Have you heard of underconsumption core?

This new trend is taking social media by storm, and we’re all for it! It’s about taking control of what you own, often things you’ve had for a while. Maybe it’s that Nalgene water bottle you bought 10 years ago that you still carry everywhere. Or finding new uses for things you already have at home. It’s all about using what you’ve got, and we’re loving the confidence it brings!

Buying less, using what you have more, and being mindful of how you can repurpose your items is not just a trend, it’s a responsible and caring way to live. It’s a small step towards a more sustainable future, and every little bit counts!

This got us thinking: How can we apply this to beauty?

This industry is riddled with overconsumption and trend purchasing, particularly among younger crowds due to the presence of social media. Here are three tips to help you consume more consciously in the beauty department.

Develop a Routine

You likely have found products that work well on your skin and make you feel beautiful! Or a process you like in the morning and at the PM. Follow the steps you have naturally created with the products you have discovered you love.

Buy New When Empty

Are you out of face cream? Have you just finished your concealer? Now is a great time to replace what you love or try something new.

Take a Pause

Is there a new product range that has taken the internet by storm? Take a moment to browse new items and assess if you have something similar. Do you need the full Range? Or is there a color that you particularly love?

Shop in Person

This is a great way to shade match, touch/feel the products, and see if this is an item you want. This also limits returns and the waste associated with opened products.

Multi-Purpose Products

Are there products you can use for more than one step of your routine? We love a lip & cheek product. Or maybe you have a cream that you love and can use it day and night.

We would love to know your thoughts on the underconsumption trend! Do you have items in your home that you are treating this way naturally? Share your experiences and tips with us in the comments below!
