Sustainable Home: Art Project

Have you recently gone on a trip and come home with a bunch of little momentos? You name it, like plane or train tickets, tickets to museums, postcards, stickers! Or you could have a bunch in a box somewhere in your home. Or you may have thousands of photos on your phone that you don’t look at often but capture the most memorable moments with friends or family, or pictures of places you love! Let’s bring these items to life!

These items are not just decorative pieces; they are conversation starters, each with a unique story to tell. They bring a touch of warmth and nostalgia to your walls or shelves, sparking lively discussions about your adventures.

Now that we have these wonderful mementos, the question arises-where do we start?

Step 1: Collect your Memories

Take a moment to go through what you have! Does anything in particular stick out? Do you see some colours that look nice together? Start making small piles of a few items.

Step 2: Categorize

How would you like to organize them? By trip, or perhaps by a color scheme that resonates with you? The choice is yours. Let your creativity run wild and make these momentos uniquely yours!

Step 3: Pick your Frames

Do you have frames lying around that you said you were going to fill? Or maybe some that could use a refresh or something else inside? Start with these frames and see what fits. If you don’t have any frames, check out your local thrift store. Don’t worry if there is something inside it; you can always take it out.

Step 4: Print those Photos

Look through those phone photos; you may find more storage space on your device. Select your favourites and go to your local print shop. Typically, it costs only a few cents per photo print, which makes it low-cost and high-reward.

Step 5: Create

This may be our favourite step! Compile a mixture of mementos and photos. You may need some glue or tape to secure your items together. Then pop them in the frame, and there you have it: some beautiful, thoughtful, conversation-sparking art to place throughout your home.

We would love to see your creations! Share them with us on our socials @housethirty!
