4 Easy Sustainable Holiday Decorations

The holiday period comes with lots of light, laughter, and litter. We all want to decorate our homes with beautiful items during the festive season to spread our joy. Sparkly lights, wreaths, and other bright decorations representing the holiday we observe are almost everywhere in supermarkets, home decor stores, and beyond. As the season approaches, so does our desire to have the best and brightest decorations on the market, leaving last year’s decorations to collect dust tucked away somewhere in our homes or end up in a landfill.

It is no wonder that during the period of the year when we consume the most, we also throw away more. But it’s not because of this that we must continue the course. The good news is that making sustainable, compostable, and long-lasting holiday decorations is much easier than we think.

In today’s post, we’ll share some of our favorite ideas for decorations you can make at home to create the sustainable holiday of your dreams. The best part is that they can be very affordable and help you create long-lasting memories and traditions along the way.

Natural Ornaments with Dried Citrus

My all time favorite! Dried citrus slices are a beautiful and eco-friendly way to add natural beauty to your tree and home. Simply slice oranges or lemons, dry them in the oven or in a food dehydrator in low temperature, and use twine or string to hang them.

Candle Holders

Repurpose wine and beer bottles by turning them into stylish candle holders. Simply clean the bottles, remove labels, and insert candles into the necks.

Wooden Stars

Craft simple wooden stars from leftover wood or branches and tie them with a twine.

Homemade Garland

Instead of buying plastic garland, make your own using natural elements like popcorn, cranberries, or fabric scraps. They are so much fun to make! And delicious too.
